Founder & CEO
Dr. Troy Spurrill is the founder and CEO of Synapse Center for Health and Healing. He started Synapse over 26 years ago with a vision to bring an integrative approach to healthcare through functional medicine, making Synapse an internationally known center for true health.
He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of Manitoba, and a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University. He has extensive training in Functional Neurology, Nutrition, and Applied Kinesiology. Dr. Troy is an author and international lecturer on wellness and brain based healing.
Dr. Troy and his wife Christine have 10 children together. When he’s not at the clinic, Dr. Troy enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and attending sporting events.
Mary Beshara is a Clinical Nurse Specialist who has been practicing Nursing for 23 years and Advanced Nursing since 2002. She graduated from St. Olaf with her undergraduate degree, and the University of Minnesota with her Advanced Practice Nursing degree with special studies through the Center for Spirituality and Healing.
Mary is also certified in pain management, NADA protocol, essential oil therapy, herbal studies, reflexology, and integrative imagery. Mary’s passion is to help patients heal- body, mind, and spirit.
Mary serves patients of all ages and gender who suffer from health issues including: hormonal imbalance, pain management, inflammatory diseases, chronic fatigue, and more.
In her spare time, Mary enjoys kayaking, gardening, swimming, bike riding, and reading. She is married and has 3 adult children. She currently lives in Apple Valley, MN.
Dr. Amber Genetzky graduated with honors from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2007 and has been practicing in the Twin Cities area since that time. Eight of those years were spent working for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community in Prior Lake where she was honored to have worked with a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare workers.
She went on to study functional neurology at the Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies-passing her boards to become an American Chiropractic Neurology Board diplomate in 2014. She has been certified in acupuncture since 2007. She studied animal chiropractic at the Healing Oasis Teaching Hospital and obtained her certificate to practice chiropractic on animals in 2010.
Dr. Amber also worked as a professional ballet dancer for local Minnesota companies for 13 years and is currently a member of the Saint Paul Ballet board. Dr. Amber is a long time runner and has completed a number of races including full marathons. And just for the fun of it, she has written, illustrated, and self-published two children’s books.
Dr. Joshua Wallert is a Minnesota native and has over 10 years’ experience in healthcare. He has a passion for serving individuals through providing understandable education and streamlined healthcare delivery.
Dr. Josh has extensive doctoral and postdoctoral education with national-board certifications and licensure in Chiropractic and Functional Neurology. Prior to joining the team at Synapse, he managed complex neurological and autoimmune patients, built and managed a stem cell therapy clinic for several years, worked with a non-profit focused on mental health disorders, and is the co-founder of a nutritional supplement company. Dr. Josh is involved in patient care coordination and medical research initiatives at Synapse Center for Health and Healing.
Through his local church, Dr. Josh has participated in community outreach efforts in the countries of Honduras and Panama. These outreach efforts included construction projects, medical trips, clean up services, and childcare programs. When Dr. Josh isn’t in the clinic he enjoys reading and spending time outdoors with his wife and two young children. They enjoy exploring and digging for worms in the garden.
Motivated by her own passions in functional medicine, yoga and acupuncture, Dr. Natalie Schumacher applies a unique combination of holistic treatments to better serve her patients.
Dr. Natalie graduated with the highest honors from Northwestern Health Sciences in 2020, earning both her Doctorate of Chiropractic and Bachelor’s of Human Biology. In addition to chiropractic, she became certified in both acupuncture and nutrition.
Her clinical focus is staying up to date with the latest research and applying root-cause solutions to complex chronic illness.
Dr. Natalie is a native of North Dakota and enjoys the change of scenery when visiting family and friends back home. She also works as a fitness instructor and yoga teacher at a studio in downtown Minneapolis. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Natalie loves traveling and adventure, reading and cashew-milk ice cream.
Dr. Tanae has had a lifelong passion for health and wellness. She grew up going to a chiropractor who practiced Applied Kinesiology and Functional Medicine. After a life changing event, she decided that she wanted to help people in this way too.
Dr. Tanae received her Bachelor’s of Human Biology and Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2014. Wanting to further her knowledge and skills, she ventured to Texas to work alongside a world renowned practitioner for 6 years. She worked with Olympic and professional athletes including track athletes, basketball players, and boxers.
With continued interest in Functional Medicine and complex cases, she became a certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. She also received postdoctoral training and board certification in Acupuncture. She currently helps teach Applied Kinesiology at Northwestern Health Sciences University.
She loves to give back to her profession and help create great practitioners so more people can get well in all areas of life. Dr. Tanae’s roots are in the Midwest and in her free time she loves to spend time with her family and friends. You can find her relaxing by a lake or river, hiking, or taking in a beautiful sunset. She also loves to read, cook, and workout. She believes in slowing down and enjoying all seasons of life, as well as making physical, chemical, and emotional health a top priority for her and others that cross her path.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Amber Boyens is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) who began working in nutrition after earning her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Saint Catherine University in 2009. After college, she worked in nutrition research at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health where she later completed her Master’s of Public Health in Nutrition. Amber has been working as a clinical dietitian since becoming an RDN in 2013.
She is currently pursuing her Master’s of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine through the University of Western States and will complete the program in 2019. Amber is passionate about helping people find individualized ways to achieve optimal wellness through a diet that both supports their health and works with their personal lifestyle.
Amber and her husband enjoy spending time with their two boys. They try to embrace the uniqueness of each Minnesota season by exploring local festivals, fairs, and other events throughout the year.
Bryanna Montgomery has been working as a registered nurse since 2013, with a focus in neurology and trauma. Coming from a family of nurses, and growing up in a family that provided foster care for medically complex children, stemmed a passion for healthcare from a very young age, which continues to grow and develop.
Encouraged by her love of animals and interest in natural whole foods, together with her spouse and 4 boys, Bryanna operates a first-generation hobby farm. With their large garden, small orchard, fold of highland cattle, dairy goats, and chickens, they have future dreams to expand their farm and to become more self-sufficient.
She truly loves Minnesota and the outdoors, and taking advantage of all this diverse state has to offer. She likes to fill her spare time with family camping trips, fly fishing, hiking, working out, and spending time with her sweet boys and husband adventuring or relaxing by a bon fire.
Functional Medicine Health and Wellness Coach
Having worked through her own journey with chronic illness, Erin is passionate about helping others thrive body, soul, and spirit, and find and live the life they desire. She enjoys helping patients rediscover their sense of empowerment and self, so that they can experience more of the fullness of life they were intended for in the midst of their healing process.
Erin is a certified Functional Medicine Health and Wellness Coach, through the Institute of for Functional Medicine and the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. Previously, she attended Colorado State University and has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Human Development and Family Studies. In addition, she completed Master Counseling coursework at Denver Seminary. Her professional background includes working in the fields of counseling, pastoral care, healing prayer, human development, and organizational management.
During her free time, Erin loves being in the unshie and enjoying the beauty of creation. She is new to Minnesota, having recently relocated from California, and enjoys exploring the area to find new hiking trails, kayaking spots, and learning how to garden in a much cooler climate. When not outside, she enjoys connecting with friends and finding ways to encourage and champion others.
