FAQs

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is personalized medicine. It is a holistic, supportive, patient-doctor partnership approach to healthcare. It is also a science based approached to healing. Our bodies and their organ systems are masterpieces of design. The intricate functions of these systems and the interrelationships as a whole are awesome to consider. As Functional/Integrative Medicine practitioners, we consider the ‘vine’-like connectedness of interactions that occur along nutritional, digestive, detoxification, energy metabolism, hormonal, structural, and immune/inflammatory pathways. We have a very different approach to your health than that of traditional medicine, as we look to treat ‘root’ causes of disease. We can only come to understand the ‘root’ causes of your specific health concerns by taking a very detailed medical history, spending time getting to know and understand you during our consultation, examining your body, and assessing lab tests.

What is Applied Kinesiology?

Chiropractic treatment focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous system. We use osseous adjustments to realign the spine, extremities as well as cranial bones. At Synapse: Center for Health and Healing, the doctors practice a specific chiropractic technique called Applied Kinesiology, or AK. Applied Kinesiology assesses muscle function as a window into the nervous system, allowing us to test the effectiveness of each adjustment.

I’ve been making dietary changes but still not getting better. What gives?

Many of our clients come to us after having tried many other types of care for problems that have been dealt with for years.  The human body is designed to heal and be healthy so if health conditions are not able to resolve on their own, it’s clear there are some underlying barriers to healing.

At Synapse: Center for Health and Healing we focus on identifying these underlying barriers and address them with individually designed programs comprised of lifestyle changes and natural medicine-based solutions.

Common barriers to healing are immune challenges, food sensitivities, and heavy metal and chemical toxicity that you may not be aware of but are nonetheless huge hurdles keeping you from healing, fertility, losing weight, having more energy or just plain feeling good.  Once these barriers are addressed it’s amazing how fast you can begin to heal and feel better.  All it takes is a simple nutrition-based physical exam!
